About the Property
Two parcels of land totaling 39 acres on Littleton County Road have been identified for protection by the Harvard Conservation Trust (HCT) and the Harvard Open Space Committee. This land is identified as a high priority due to the property’s history in agriculture as an extension of Carlson Orchards, its ecological significance, climate resilience, water and wetlands.
The preservation of this land is crucial, not only because of its agricultural and environmental importance, but also because it connects to a 345-acre “high ridge” open space corridor along the Harvard border with Boxborough that contains ecologically sensitive habitats and land. By safeguarding these two parcels of land, we are able to protect farmland from becoming developed, support local farming, connect open spaces and maintain the integrity of the entire ecosystem.
A Conservation Restriction will be placed on these two parcels to protect this land in perpetuity for conservation and agricultural use. HCT will work with local or regional farmers to ensure that this land remains in active agricultural use.
This joint project between the Harvard Conservation Trust and the Town of Harvard will fund the protection and cultivation of these two parcels of forests, wetlands, and agricultural farm land.
