Pin Hill
Description
One of Harvard’s most important geological and historical landmarks. The dark gray, slate-like phyllite and pebbly conglomerate that now comprise the rocks of Pin Hill were rare in Massachusetts and used in what was once a flourishing stonecutting trade. Gravestones cut from Pin Hill can be found in many nearby cemeteries.
Harvard residents used the power generated by Bowers Brook for numerous small mill enterprises for over a hundred years. Steep ledges and a beautiful mill pond enhance the appeal of this site.
