Spring is the perfect time to discover the hidden world of vernal pools! Join local biologist Bob Douglas for a fun, family-friendly adventure into these unique seasonal habitats—teeming with life like spotted salamanders, wood frogs, fairy shrimp, and other fascinating creatures that emerge each spring. This hands-on experience is perfect for school-age children and curious preschoolers alike.
After exploring the pools, we’ll enjoy a scenic hike out to the tip of Barba’s Point Peninsula, with beautiful views overlooking Bare Hill Pond—feel free to bring a snack to enjoy along the way!

Where: Barba’s Point. Park at the Bromfield School and we’ll meet at the trailhead near the tennis courts.
What to Wear: Dress appropriately for the weather. Waterproof footwear or good walking shoes will work, and apply bug spray.
Viewing sleds, magnifying glasses, and nets will be made available – or bring your own!
